Affine Sonority - Brass feat. organ

Martinskirche, Chur

The combination of the two sound worlds of brass and organ promises a unique listening experience. Andrea Kuratle, one of the most renowned organists, has been recruited for this project.

The resonance produced by a well-built organ in a large church is undoubtedly one of the most impressive things you can experience in the world of music. It is not for nothing that the organ is also known as the "queen of instruments". A brass band probably comes closest to its sound, as in both cases the sound is produced by air vibrations in a metal resonating body.

With the concert project "Affine Sonorität - Brass feat. Orgel", the Brass Band Cazis creates a unique listening experience by uniting these two sonorous bodies of sound. Together with Chur organist Andrea Kuratle, the Brass Band Cazis presents Thomas Trachsel's "Symphonietta No. 2 in C minor" and Léon Boëllmann's "Suite Gothique". With "Tallis Variations" by Philip Sparke, a classical brass band composition is also on the program. The chorale melody on which these variations are based is the third of nine melodies written by the English composer Thomas Tallis in 1567 as part of a psalter for the first Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury. Thomas Tallis also wrote the hymn "If ye love me", which can be heard in a version arranged by Robin Bartholini together with organ. The solo for organ "Final, Op. 21 in B flat major" by César Franck and the new composition "L'arbre et la graine" by conductor Robin Bartholini round off the concert program.

The evening will be hosted by Hugo Schär, editor at RTR (Radiotelevisiun Svizra Rumantscha).
